Hep-tonic is a cool new program that provides education to youth and adults on Hep C, HIV and other blood borne infections. Looking at things from a harm reduction perspective, the Hep-tonic program strives to increase awareness of prevention and transmission of Hep C, as well as access to testing, care, treatment information and referrals. Hep-tonic provides people with accurate information and education.

The Shelter Health Network is a group of health professionals and social service organizations that provide health services to people with unstable housing in the Hamilton area. The Network’s Hepatitis C Program includes both education and outreach in the community as well as health care for people living with Hep C. Once people have been referred to the program by their Shelter House doctor, the Hep C nurse assists with additional testing procedures, treatment and individual counseling.

The Ontario Harm Reduction Distribution Program provides harm reduction materials, such as sterile water, cookers, tourniquets, filters, vitamin C (acidifier) and alcohol swabs to Ontario’s needle exchange and harm reduction programs. As well, the OHRDP acts as knowledge broker and provides a website for additional information including a directory of needle exchange programs and satellites in Ontario. Street Health’s Hep C Program works with high-risk populations who may be at risk of or living with Hep C. Hep C education and outreach, testing, treatment, counseling, referrals and harm reduction services, including a needle exchange, are available at the Centre. Street Health uses a multidisciplinary, primary practitioner-led treatment model involving a family physician, Hep C nurses, a counselor and a psychiatrist. A support group meets every month on the second and third Thursdays from 1:30pm -3:00pm. You can drop by the Centre, call or email for more information.
