Organizations in Nova Scotia

This organization provides services and support to people who are co-infected with Hep C and HIV.  Information about Hep C is included in their educational presentations and workshops and additional information is readily available by visiting the office location.

CPAOC is composed of non-governmental organizations, incarcerated people and ex-incarcerated people across Canada that work with people in prison on HCV/HIV/AIDS and/or human rights, health promotion and harm reduction issues.

The mandate of CPAOC is to advocate for human rights, harm reduction (such as Prison-based Needle and Syringe Programs) in regards to HCV/HIV/AIDS and other systemic issues in all federal prisons and provincial institutions in Canada.

The Halifax Sexual Heath Centre offers a wide variety of sexual health care programs and services including non-nominal Hep A, B, C & syphilis testing, anonymous HIV testing, as well as tests for all other STIs.  Counselling and referral services are also available and all services are totally confidential. You can call to make an appointment.

The Hepatitis Outreach Society is committed to supporting community capacity and development, health promotion, public awareness and the implementation of social support networks throughout Nova Scotia for people living with or affected by hepatitis A, B and C.

The office is located at 2973 Oxford Street, Halifax, NS.

This clinic is located at the Victoria General Hospital QEII site in Halifax.  Patients require a referral.

Mainline is a comprehensive harm reduction program offering needle exchange and support services to current and former drug users in the Halifax and greater Peninsula region. They are client-centered and work from a health promotion perspective. 

NACS is working on a comprehensive “Hepatitis C Aware Project.”   This project involves disseminating Hep C education to at-risk populations, conducting an environmental scan of current Hep C services and service needs in the northern Nova Scotia region and increasing capacity within the PLWHCV community to improve support within this population.

The AIDS Coalition of Cape Breton (ACCB) runs a needle exchange program at their office location in Sydney.  Sterile injection equipment and support services are available to people who live in the region and require these resources.  S.A.N.E. does community outreach and will visit people in more remote locations of the region if they require needle exchange and counselling services but are unable to come to the office in Sydney. S.A.N.E. operates weekdays.
