AIDS PEI works within a harm reduction philosophy to assist people at risk of or living with Hep C.  They provide educational workshops on hepatitis C as well as referral and support services to their clients.  Collect calls from Canadian correctional institutions are accepted.

CPAOC is composed of non-governmental organizations, incarcerated people and ex-incarcerated people across Canada that work with people in prison on HCV/HIV/AIDS and/or human rights, health promotion and harm reduction issues.

The mandate of CPAOC is to advocate for human rights, harm reduction (such as Prison-based Needle and Syringe Programs) in regards to HCV/HIV/AIDS and other systemic issues in all federal prisons and provincial institutions in Canada.

Hep C Education and Outreach

The Native Council of PEI is host to the Hep C awareness program, Hep’d Up On Life, which is based on traditional teachings including the Medicine Wheel. A core group of Aboriginal youth are trained as peer educators and offer workshops, support and act as a liaison to other services in the community for those at risk of contracting Hep C and  HIV/AIDS co-infection. Hep’d Up On Life also trains Hep C peer educators at Provincial Corrections and Grandmothers’ House Aboriginal Women’s Shelter.
